On the eve of the opening of the VIII International Siberian Historical Forum, the Congress of Local History of the Yenisey Siberia was held in Krasnoyarsk. The event brought together university lecturers, school teachers, employees of museums, archives and libraries, journalists and researchers of the history of Siberian regions from the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Republic of Khakassia and the Tyva Republic – more than 200 participants in total. Prior to this, local history experts of the Yenisey Siberia met almost 100 years ago – in 1924, at the governorate local history conference.
The congress had four local history sections: Library Workers, Museum Workers, Teachers and Lecturers, and Independent Researchers, in where the participants discussed prospects for the development of the local history movement.
In the final part of the congress, the stakeholders established a new regional public organization – the Union of the Yenisey Siberia Local History Studies which will unite local history organizations in the districts and cities of the region. It was also decided to launch portal енисейскаягуберния.рф, which will accumulate all scientific works of the specialists.
“I am sure that the Yenisey Siberia Union of Local Lore Studies will develop and strengthen traditions, contribute to the study and preservation of the cultural and spiritual heritage of the peoples of our regions, and patriotic education of young people.
Continuity of history, responsibility to past and future generations are the basis for constructive movement forward,” said Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss in his welcoming letter to the participants of the congress.
At the end of the event, local historians who made a special contribution to the study of the history of the region were awarded letters of thanks on behalf of Alexander Uss.
The Congress of Local History of the Yenisey Siberia is a satellite event of the VIII Siberian Historical Forum, the largest scientific event beyond the Urals, which took place in Krasnoyarsk from 21 to 23 September. More details about the forum at sibhistory.ru.
